Black lives have a right to public safety and neighborhoods free of gun-violence.  The NAACP advocates for a better public safety system that reduces the reliance on prisons as means of solving social problems, advances effective law enforcement and removes barriers to voting and employment for formerly incarcerated people. There is a racial, double-standard in policing and criminal justice when racial-profiling and mandatory minimums target Black and Brown people, while whites are disproportionately granted lighter sentences, community service and immunity from prosecution.
